So it's Thursday again and that means it's time to take a look at another AAA title. This week we will be covering S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - Heart of Chornobyl. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title was a hit back in 2007 when it first came out. It's large open world survival style gameplay appeals to a large audience. But like the original be prepared for some bugs. They will, like before be attended to in due time with patches and by no means are they severe enough to disrupt the overall experience.
In most survival games there are vast areas to explore and tons of goodies to collect and like the original, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - Heart of Chornobyl doesn't disappoint. There are a myriad of side missions throughout the game. Some take you down dark paths where the end objective is to assassinate your target. Others require you to find a piece of missing tech. Some even ask you to do both! Either way you'll find yourself exploring this beautiful landscape of Ukraine on the tips of your toes as you avoid the dangers hidden throughout!
The weapon system in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is quite fun, while perhaps not entirely unique in itself. You can remove ammo from unused guns, repair and upgrade weapons for more stopping power or sell them for quick cash if that's your desire. You can also use multiple ammo types for each gun! As far as actual gunplay you need to be mindful. Headshots in this game might be the most significant advantage you can give yourself. Most monsters can soak up bullets pretty well, however humanoids are typically killed with a headshot. With bullets being at such a premium not wasting them on making the world more holey might be a good idea.
There are some things to keep in mind while playing this game however. Your survival gear and weapons need constant repair. This can be expensive so you'll want to make sure you're loading up on goodies to sell. That being said, don't overburden yourself. In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, having to many goodies may impair your movement! In fact, it could remove certain movement options all together! It's a good idea to make regular trips to sell and repair stuff. But it's a survival game so... I mean obviously... Finally, if you're doing side missions, make sure and save. While the auto-save feature works wonders in the story. It doesn't always recognize your need to save when crawling around in the mud with a sack of highly valued tech. And one angry monster you didn't see coming could cost you greatly if you're not regularly saving.
I have not finished this game by any means at the time of this post. But it looks extremely promising and I would highly recommend giving it a try! Giving it a 8/10 (little buggy at launch) but will probably become a 9/10 once properly debugged and patched! Stick to the shadows and enjoy the carnage in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - Heart of Chornobyl!
