Why hello there, fancy meeting you here. It's time again for another AAA Thursday and this week we look at a game I'm very excited for, Path of Exile 2! It's been eleven years since Path of Exile (PoE) was launched, and while it never quite got the recognition I think it deserves it did amass a rather large player base. It also holds a special place with us at DPSII because it started out as an Indie product! Now let's take a look at what we can expect in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2).
So there are a lot of changes happening in PoE 2. Unlike a lot of games, PoE 2 is not a completely new game. Instead the story will pick up 20 years after the story in PoE. Which isn't entirely uncommon, what makes PoE unique is that they're keeping a lot of what was in PoE. So, if you fell in love with your PoE character, you'll have a chance to remake them in PoE 2! Additionally there will be six extra classes to pick from and a plethora of additional skills.
As to the story there will be six new lore rich acts to work your way through as you learn the ropes of this new (yet old) action RPG. With a reworked flask system managing your healing has never been easier. And you'll need that simplicity when it comes to fighting the bosses. The complex boss fights will leaving you reeling and if you're the type to frighten easily you may want to come prepared. There will be no running from boss areas, meaning no portals and if you die the bosses reset!
But what about skills you ask? Ooooh yes this is a gem for sure! A completely redesigned skill gem system will still have active and support gems but will no longer require you to tie your gems to your equipment. Allowing you to upgrade your gear without the fear of losing vital skills. Instead gems will be uncut, and you will be able to turn those into the actual skills you want!
Alright, what else has changed that may attract us to PoE 2, well with the increased boss difficulty it seemed prudent to add in additional survival techniques. One of those being the aforementioned update to the flask system. Another being the dodge roll ability. This can be used to avoid danger or quickly reposition yourself. It can be used outside global cooldown and scales with movement speed. This may seem a little overpowered but it's worth noting that the entire roll doesn't make you immune to damage. Initially you may dodge an attack or spell. But if you time your roll wrong you can still take damage mid-late roll. However the entire roll animation does prevent stun, so there may still be an advantage even if not timed perfectly.
There are tons of other updates to mention, as the game, while holding true to PoE is completely new. Updated crowd control ailments that build over time, no crafting bench, massively updated weapon swap system, wands being considered spells, a gold system and an updated currency orb system to make managing modifiers easier. This game promises to bring the heat and I for one will sit firmly in the kitchen as the temp rises! Look for Path of Exile 2 releasing December 6, 2024 and prepare yourself for the perils of Wraeclast!
